::Malaysian Culture::

1. More harmony than control of the environment

2. More relationship than task-oriented

3. More group than individual-oriented

4. More hierarchical than equal

5. More shame driven than guilt driven

6. More high-context than low context

7. More polychronic than monochronic time orientation

8. More religious than secular

           During class discussion, we agree of all of Malaysian culture above except for number 2 and number 7. For number 2, we believe that our culture in Malaysia is more on individual-oriented than group-oriented. We said like that because even we notice that our culture more on group-oriented that individual-oriented; however in counseling we still focus on individual. As a professional counselor, we cannot tend to focus or bias on group. Like we have been discussing before, we must be neutral when dealing with diverse clients. Try to not let yourself influenced by others.
            The other point that we disagree is the last point which is more religious than secular. From our first discussion, we believe that not all counselors practice religious counseling toward their clients. However, after we hear explanation from our beloved lecturer, Dr. Siraje, our perception toward this thing changes. Counselors always practices and apply religious counseling in their counseling session even from different culture and religions. It is only us whose not realize about it.
We further our discussion by try to relate moral with religion because we think that moral and religion has same value which is both of it want us to practice good conduct in our life. But, it only make us become more confuse. So, we need to take this things seriously and aware of the importance to learn multicultural in counseling.
